ECC (error-correcting code) module, also known as parity memory, is designed to detect and correct single-bit errors that occur during data storage and transmission. It has more memory chips than a non-ECC. ECC module is generally used for computer systems that hold high-value data and where data corruption is intolerable.
Instead of taking extra chips in regular ECC module design, in this patent, memory chips with built-in error-correcting code was mounted on board, each memory chip itself can carry out error checking and correction function and thus increase overall speed and performance. More importantly, this new ECC structure is not limited by host memory slots, BIOS settings, or support of motherboard. For general public, with this unique ECC module, he/she can enjoy ECC functions without upgrading his/her motherboards.
